Head out early for a full-day Fuji and Hakone circuit, travelling southwest of the city. Begin at Mount Fuji’s 5th Station, around 2,305 metres above sea level, where the Fuji Five Lakes region stretches out below, and the air turns noticeably cooler. Continue to Hakone for a ropeway ride over the Owakudani geothermal zone, watching the steam vents and sulphur formations scattered across the crater floor. End the circuit with a relaxing cruise across Lake Ashi.
Pick up your Hop-on, Hop-off bus pass and spend the day marvelling at Tokyo’s most iconic sights. You could begin with Asakusa at the Senso-ji temple precinct, then head to Shibuya to see its famous crossing. Continue to Harajuku for a stroll along Takeshita Street before making your way to Shinjuku’s east-gate area. Hop off wherever you want to explore and rejoin the bus when you’re ready. The pass is valid all day, so there’s no need to rush between stops.
Take the day to explore areas still on your list or revisit a favourite experience with more time. Explore Tokyo on foot and discover quaint spots along the way. You could also head to Akihabara for its anime and electronics shops, Shinjuku for shopping and lively streets or Odaiba for waterfront views and attractions.
